Advices from Prague said today that issuance of emigration permits to Jews will be resumed in a few days, although Jews will not be permitted to enter the Sudetenland districts.
The HIAS-ICA Emigration Association will be reopened on Monday under the leadership of Hanna Steiner, president of the Czech branch of the Women’s International Zionist Organization who was released by the Gestapo last week. Marie Schmolka, HIAS-ICA leader, is reported still held in prison. (One of the organization’s first tasks will be to transfer 250 youths to Palestine, Paris headquarters of HIAS-ICA announced.)
The Gestapo has closed the Jewish Community Library in Prague, but will permit reopening of the Jewish People’s School on Monday. All Jewish jurors in Slovakia have been dismissed and replaced by “Aryans.” The Government organ Venkov demands that all Jewish land and property in the new Reich protectores be Aryanized.”
The municipality of Olmuetz has decided to extend its public park to include an adjacent old Jewish cemetery. The work of demolishing the cemetery buildings will be undertaken at once. At the same time it was proposed to reserve a “ghetto” section of the park for Jews, forbidding them access to any other section.
(CORRECTION: Jewish children have already been segregated in schools of Bohemia-Moravia. It was erroneously stated in a London dispatch published in yesterday’s JTA NEWS that the children “will be segregated.”)
