A bill to admit 200,000 DP’s to the United States in the next two years is expected to be adopted by the House next week following its approval yesterday by the House Judiciary Committee. At the same time, however, a Senate DP measure which would cut the number of admissible displaced persons to 100,000 and stipulating that half of the immigrants must be Baltic nationals will come up for consideration in mid May.
Sponsored by Rep. Frank Fellows, the House bill provides, among other things, that preference in eligibility be given refugees in the following classifications: farm laborers, physicians, dentists, medical nurses, household and clothing workers; the 15,000 refugees now in the U.S. on temporary visas be allowed to become citizens; ### the Federal Government or the State Governor could decide on the number of refugees to be allowed entry to any given State.
