Alaska which now has a population of 60,000 can comfortably support a population of at least 20,000,000. it was declared by Vilhjalmur Stefansson. Arctic explorer who cooperated in gathering information for the Interior Department’s Alaskan survey in an interview with the New York Herald Tribune.
The report was fair and accurate except for underestimating the seriousness of the mosquito problem, Mr. Stefansson said. The extensive settlement and development recommended in the survey can be accomplished through the efforts of corporations, American style, and cooperatives, Scandinavian style, “pulling in double harness,”he declared.
