A bomb exploded early this morning in the printing plant where the Yiddish-language weekly newspaper Naje Welt (“New World”) is printed. The bomb caused great damage to the machinery and furniture. The plant is located in Ramath-Gan, near Tel Aviv.
As soon as the news of the blast became known in Jerusalem, the Jewish National Council of Palestine issued a statement strongly condemning the methods used by extremists in fighting against the Jewish press published in Palestine in languages other than Hebrew. A similar statement was issued by the central committee of the Histadruth, the Jewish Labor Federation of Palestine.
(Jewish extremists in Palestine have long been conducting a fight against the publication of newspapers in the Yiddish language, insisting that Hebrew is the only language which the Jewish press in Palestine should use. The anti-Yiddish activity resulted in a protest issued last month by Jewish writers in America addressed to Jewish national organizations in Palestine and to the Hebrew press there.)
