Despite official denials by Egypt, the Nasser regime continues to expel Jews and to confiscate the property of Jews, Jewish Agency leader S. Z. Shragai told a press conference today. A stream of Egyptian Jews continues to arrive at various Mediterranean ports, he said.
Mr. Shragai warned against a repetition of the “Moroccan mistake” when the opportunity to transfer the entire Jewish population of that Moslem state was “missed.” He disclosed that 55, 000 Jews had entered Israel in 1956 and forecast that 70, 000 would arrive in 1957.
In a report on the Hungarian Jewish refugee situation, Mr. Shragai said that 1, 000 Jews have already arrived in Israel from Austrian refuge. He asserted that religious elements associated with Agudas Israel movement and the Satmar Rebbe are conducting propaganda among the Hungarian Jews, most of whom were extremely religious, not to go to Israel.
