That the reports of the forcible deportation of the Jewish refugees from Roumania in violation of that government’s agreement to give the refugees until December to leave are erroneous, the Roumanian Minister to the United States, Prince Bibesco, declares in a letter to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
The letter of the Minister follows:
“Pursuant to my letter of Saturday, the 6th, of this month, I wish to inform you that I have today received another cablegram from my government stating that the Roumanian Government never has had the intention to disregard the agreement with the Jewish organizations and start the deportation of Jewish refugees. Wherever local authorities have taken forcible measures on their own initiative, the Roumanian Government has firmly resolved to take energetic measures of redress. The only wish of the Roumanian Government has been that the evacuation of the refugees should proceed with the utmost haste.
“It is, therefore, quite clear to me that the wish expressed by the Roumanian Government that evacuation should be expedited as much as possible has given rise to the unfounded rumor that the agreement had been cancelled and forcible deportations begun.
