Austria must extend its present deadline against further war crimes trials because a number of Nazi war criminals must still be apprehended and tried, Minister of Justice C. Broda informed Parliament here today. He proposed extension of the deadline to 1965.
Dr, Broda made his request “in view of present developments,” declaring that Austria “must not become a sanctuary for war criminals.” Authorities are now investigating eight war criminals accused of “especially grave” crimes. An unspecified number of other criminals are still being hunted by the federal police.
