Adherence to ancient Jewish ideals was seen as the most effective answer to the “World-wide challenge to Jewry,” by Bernard Semel, honorary secretary of the Jewish Education Association, who was principal speaker at a dinner of the association’s Brooklyn Division, held last night at the Hotel St. George, Brooklyn.
More than 600 guests heard Municipal Court Justice Nathan Sweedler, chairman of the Brooklyn group, describe its growth from fifteen to more than 500 members during the year.
Speakers included Louis S. Posner, member of the Board of Education; Dr. Elias Lieberman, principal of the Thomas Jefferson High School, and Mrs. Gabriel Hamburger, chairman of Ivriah, who discussed the role of Jewish mothers in keeping alive Jewish traditions.
Justice Sweedler was introduced by Dr. Charles F. Fisher, chairman of the dinner committee. Musical selections were offered by Cantor Caplow of Long Beach and Mrs. L. Toledano. Mrs. Clara L. Ostriker presented a dramatic reading.
