Leaders of the Falashas, Ethiopian Jews, have signified their loyalty to Italy by giving the oath of allegiance to Governor Pirzio Birolo, a communique published in the Italian newspapers announced today.
Governor Birolo is reported to have declared that the Government not only will allow the Falashas the same cultural freedom and respect given to other religious communities in Italian East Africa, but will also follow the progress of “this peaceful and industrious minority” with interest.
According to the communique, the District Governor of Gondar Province has ordered distribution of food among the poor Falashas of the district.
