Six hundred youngsters from the Youth Battalions began this morning the sorrowful task of delivering to families of the soldiers who fell in the Yom Kippur War the Sefer Hakedoshim–Book of the Dead. In the 144 pages are the names of 2522 soldiers who died and were reported missing between Oct. 6, 1973 and Feb. 12, 1974.
Listed are names of eight pairs of brothers: two from Tel Aviv, two from Kibbutz Gat, two from Kibbutz Givat Chaim, two from Ramat Gan two from Kibbutz Dovrat, two from Yad Mordechai, two from Givatayim, and two from Kiryat Tivon. Of the dead and missing, 236 are from Tel Aviv, 212 from Jerusalem, 153 from Haifa, 107 from Ramat Gan, 85 from Holon, and 83 from Petach Tikvah. Of the casualties, 320 were from kibbutzim and 229 from moshavim (collective settlements). The book will be distributed to the public beginning tomorrow.
