The 50th anniversary of the Farband-Labor Zionist Order was observed in Israel today with the planting of the first saplings of the Farband Forest at Modi in, southeast of here near the Jordanian border, the ancient site of the tombs of the Maccabbees. Ceremonies marking the opening of a new road connecting the Modiin area with the seashore near Tel Aviv, and named for Izhak Ben-Zvi, late President of Israel, were also held in connection with Farband’s jubilee observance. The forest and the construction of the new road were financed with funds raised by Farband.
Taking part in the ceremonies were Mrs. Rachel Ben-Zvi, widow of the late President, who cut the tape opening the new road; Yaacov Tsur, world chairman of the Jewish National Fund; Joseph Weitz, a member of the Jewish Agency executive; and hundreds of Farband members currently in Israel.
