The first large group of American chalutzim, that is, Jews who are going to Palestine to settle there as colonists, will be tendered a farewell reception to night at the Jewish Club prior to their departure on the Mauretania tomorrow for Palestine, by the New York Zionist Region.
Fifty men and women constitute the group who have determined to become pioneers in the Holy Land, where they will join 162,000 other Jews in re-establishing Palestine as the Jewish National Homeland. Hundreds of other American Jews are preparing to leave for Palestine as colonists but the impossibility of securing colonization visas hold them back.
Zionists from New York and vicinity will attend the reception en masse to bid farewell to the chalutzim. Addresses will be delivered by Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Rabbi of the Free Synagogue; Dr. Shmarya Levin and Jonah J. Goldstein. The Chairman of the evening will be Judge Bernard A. Rosenblatt.
