There is no Jewish problem is Austria so far as “national-minded” Austrian Jews are concerned, Prince Ernst Ruediger von Starhemberg, leader of the Heimwehr, the Fascist home guard, told the correspondent of the Budapest Ujsag today. He condemned “Utopian race theories.”

“No Jewish problem exists so far as our national-minded Jewish citizens are concerned,” the fascist leader declared. ” They are no burden. The Jewish question arises only in the case of individuais witout fathland feeling. Who are not able to adjust themselves to the Austrian fate.

“All Jews standing on a national basis,” he asserted, ” and who do not follow international misteachings are not involved in any discussion of the Jewish question. Besides the Jewish question will not be solved by force. Only action by the State to prevent the settlement of individuals harboring internationalism, will be the solution.

“We insist, under all circumstances,” he concluded, ” on the independence of Austria and condemn all Utopian race theories”.

Persistent rumors of a “march on Vienna” by the Heimwehr. of the secret arrival in Austria of Otto, pretender to the Austrian throne, of an invasion of Austrian Nazi exiles from across the German border continued to contribute today to the state of feverish unrst manifest in all quarters and circles.

While the statements issued by high government authorities almost daily are tending to reassure the Jews that the government was planning no action hostile to the political, civil and economic interests of the Jewish population, considerable uncertainty and apprehension exists among the Jews as to action affecting their status.
