An international conference of Fascists is being planned to take place in London to coincide with the opening of the trial in Jerusalem of Adolf Eichmann, the Nazi war criminal who directed the mass killing of 6,000,000 Jews in Europe during the Second World War, it was disclosed here last night by Sir Leslie Plummer, Laborite Member of Parliament.
Sir Leslie, who addressed a meeting of the Glasgow branch of the World Jewish Congress, British section, said that it was the responsibility of the Home Office to see that the police were alert to prevent outbursts of anti-Semitism which might follow in the wake of reaction by neo-Nazis throughout the world to the Eichmann trial.
If such a meeting took place in London, Sir Leslie declared, the working people would show their objections to such a degree that the recent scenes at the Belgian Embassy in London would seem in comparison like a “tea party.” The Laborite MP expressed the hope that the Eichmann trial would show those countries which still employed former Nazi war criminals in positions of power and authority that the world was horrified that such conditions could persist.
