Observing Tisha B’Av, the fast commemorating the destruction of the First and Second Temples, thousands of Israelis today crowded Mount Zion, overlooking the Old City and the Wailing Wall.
Throughout the country, Tisha B’Av was marked by the reading of the Book of Lamentations and the traditional elegies associated with the fast. All cafes and places of entertainment here were closed for the day.
