Faulty intelligence was to blame for the deaths of 14 civilians in a July 23 airstrike that killed Hamas’ military leader, the Israeli army said last Friday. The Israel Defense Force and Shin Bet domestic security service determined that there were “gaps in information and assessments with regard to the presence of civilians in the apartment” in which Hamas chief Salah Shehada was hiding.
