Funeral services were held today for Mrs. Fayvelle Mermey, the first woman to serve as president of a synagogue in the New York City area. She died Saturday at her home in Larchmont, N.Y. at the age of 61. Mrs. Mermey was president of the Larchmont Temple from 1960 to 1962 and again from 1972 to 1974. At the time of her death, she was director of the dues collecting agency of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. A graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, she worked as a feature writer and columnist for the Mamaroneck Daily Times from 1964 to 1970. Her husband Maurice Mermey, died in 1974.
