Hungarian Jews will suffer as a result of the discovery of the counterfeiting plot, is the feeling prevalent here today.

A panic was caused among the Jewish population of Budapest by the announcement that huge mass demonstrations of the so-called patriotic Hungarian societies will take place in the next few days. It was stated that the organizations intend to cause anti-Semitic riots during the demonstrations.

It was also established that Franz Moluar and Ferdinand Varnay who made an attempt on the life of Joseph Vaszony, Jewish leader of the Hungarian liberals, are members of a recently created terroristic organization.

It was declared today that the mass demonstrations of the Budapest societies are fostered by the Bethlen government and that even the preparations for these demonstrations are being made by the government officials as a means of counteracting the growth of the opposition.

At yesterday’s meeting of the Hungarian parliament, leaders of the opposition warned the government not to play with fire and not to rekindle the “cause of Christian patriotism and the Horthy cult.” Leaders of the opposition also pointed out that the leaders of the patriotic societies who are planning the demonstrations are now in jail on charges of complicity in the counterfeiting plot.
