The Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds will undertake a national study of measures by communities to coordinate hospital and other community resources in the care of the chronically ill, Herbert R. Abeles, council president, announced today. The study will be financed by a three-year grant of $185,000 from the U.S. Public Health Service and will be directed by Dr. Milton I. Roemer., former director of medical and hospital services of the Saskatchewan Department of Public Health.
The study, Mr. Abeles said, “will be equally valuable to non-Jewish and public agencies since the experience of our own institutions, although under Jewish auspices is applicable to other community institutions. They have no restrictions on admission and in the general hospitals over half the patients are non-Jewish. The medical and social programs of these institutions parallel those of other community facilities.”
