The Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York announced today the appointment of Sanford Solender as its new executive vice president. George II. Heyman, Jr., president of the Federation, said that Mr. Soldnder will take office on April 1, 1970.
He will become the sixth professional director of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies since it was founded 53 years ago. Mr. Solender has been executive vice president of the National Jewish Welfare Board since 1960. Mr. Heyman noted that he has had a distinguished career as a social welfare leader, educator, writer and social scientist. Mr. Solender has served as president of the National Conference on social welfare and in 1961 was chairman of an ad hoc committee appointed by Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare Abraham Ribicoff to study the Federal Government’s social welfare program. Three years later he served on the national Advisory Council on Public Welfare authorized by Congress.
