A $30,000,000 campaign, the greatest fund-raising drive ever conducted in the United States to meet local medical and welfare needs, us launched today by the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York at a lunchen conference at the Hotel Astor of some 500 Federation leaders and workers.
Of the record-breaking campaign goal, $21,000,000 will be sought for Federation’s first building fund in 25 years. This will be used for new construction, expension, and modernization of local health and welfare facilities, and for the furthermore of medical and scientific research. The other $9,000,000 will be raised to meet the current operating expenses of Federation’s 116 affiliated hospitals and social service agencies, which annually serve more than 300,000 people.
Following the leadership conference, which reviewed last-minute campaign plans and marked the opening of the drive, Norman S. Goetz, Federation president, discussed details of the $30,000,000 appeal at a press conference at Federation headquarters. Mr. Goetz announced that the campaign will be conducted by approximately 10,000 volunteer workers under the chairmanship of Maurice Wertheim, prominent Jewish leader, who has been a trustee of Federation for 25 years and was formerly chairman of its finance committee for 15 years.
