An appeal to Pope Pius XII to intervene to stop the “shedding of innocent blood” of Jews “who are being shot down without pity or reason” in Poland was made today in a cable sent by the American Federation for Polish Jews. Signed by Dr. Joseph Tenenbaum, president, the appeal pointed out that the silence of the Polish Catholic clergy “cannot but encourage the pogroms.”
