Abraham Feinberg, chairman of the Board of Governors of the Weizmann Institute of Science denied, in a statement issued here today, a published report in Israel that Dr. Albert B. Sabin, president of the Institute, had been fired as president.
“There is not a scintilla of truth in the published reports,” Feinberg said here. “Dr. Sabin enjoys the full confidence and friendship of myself, members of the Board of Governors and the scientific staff of the Weizmann Institute.” The chairman added that Dr. Sabin was returning to Rehovot “to resume his duties as president on July 16,” a post Dr. Sabin has held since January, 1970, under a five-year contract “which does not expire until the end of 1974. This year he underwent open heart surgery which has necessitated a protracted period of convalescence.”
Dr. Sabin alone will determine whether the state of his health will permit him to carry out the heavy responsibilities of the presidency over a long period,” Feinberg said. “The decision is his and his alone to make. His prestige and dedication have proved an important asset in enhancing the distinguished reputation the Weizmann Institute enjoys in the international scientific community and elsewhere in the world.”
