A meager crop of Jewish candidates for public office was revealed here yesterday as the time for filing nomination papers expired. A number of Jews hitherto prominent in politics declined to run, it was reported, to avoid stirring up possible anti-Jewish personalities in the campaign.
Among those who are in the race are: William B. Rubin, attorney, candidate for the Democratic nomination as Governor; Irvin Aaron, Sydney N. Leshin, John Holzman and Aaron C. Teitlebaum, candidates for the State Assembly from Milwaukee County districts, all on the Progressive Party slate; Robert Hess, socialist candidate for District Attorney of Milwaukee County, and I. B. Padway, Progressive candidate for Congress. Fifth District.
