Considerable alarm is voiced in the Hebrew press here at the paucity of Jewish officials in the various offices of the government’s customs department. The figures show that in the head office there are 35 officials and only one Jew-among them. Of the 32 officials in the Haifa office two are Jews and in the Jerusalem office there are 60 officials of which number 51 are Jews. In the other offices there are a total of 60 customs guards, only one of whom is a Jew. Of the fifteen tobacco supervisers employed by the customs office not one is a Jew.
