Financial setbacks suffered by business enterprises in Germany, affecting Jewish merchants, was given as the cause of a suicide pact between two brothers, Kurt and Simon Beck, owners of the widely known fur firm of that name in Chemnitz. The financial difficulties suffered by the firm was said to be the cause.
Kurt Beck died, and his brother, Simon, is gravely ill as a result of the attempt at double suicide. Both brothers were highly esteemed in the community, Kurt holding the degree of Doctor honoris causa.
