“Schechita” the killing of cattle and fowl according to the Jewish ritual, has been prohibited by the Government of Finland. The prohibition comes as a distinct shock to the Orthodox Jews, despite the many intimations from the prevention of cruelty quarters that the prohibition would be sought.
Finland is probably the only country where the ritual has been prohibited, although agitation favoring the abolition of the practice, said to be more humanitarian than the usual method, has been urged from time to time in various countries.
