Three serious conflagrations occurred in Jerusalem within the last fortnight, according to a report in the EGYPTIAN GAZETTE, the leading English language newspaper of the Near East.
Usually free from fires, the City of Jerusalem was caught unawares by the flames which swept a cinema theatre and destroyed a large tobacco factory. The water supply of Jerusalem, usually meagre, proved inadequate altogether for extinguishing the flames, the correspondent said. He adds that the possibility that the fires were caused by “Bolshevist Jews” is being investigated by the Jerusalem police.
