A disastrous conflagration today destroyed twenty-three Jewish houses in the village of Frumsica near the Jewish town of Botosani in Bessarabia.
The fire broke out at midnight. Candles used for illumination set the houses on fire. The flames were fanned by a strong wind which made it impossible to fight the fire. A near panic ensued as the frightened inhabitants fled to local synagogues for protection.
All the inhabitants were saved. The property loss was great. Most of the victims whose houses were not insured were small traders and artisans.
