A fire last night caused an estimated $350,000 damage to Israel’s tallest building, the 30-story Shalom Tower in downtown Tel Aviv which serves as an office building and a hotel. Firemen fought the blaze for several hours before bringing it under control. But they safely evacuated all of the hotel guests and other persons in the building. The fire broke out in the textile goods department of a supermarket on the third floor and threatened the upper floors which are occupied by the hotel.
