A fire last night destroyed a large part off the first Jewish cooperative department store in this city, with damages estimated at several million Pesos.
The cooperative, in which 1,000 Jews were employed, was founded in 1915 by 30 emigrants. It had an annual turnover of 50 million pesos a year. Officers of the store are hoping for government assistance to rebuild the enterprise.
