The larger part of the Jewish quarter of Saloniki was destroyed today by fire resulting from renewed anti-Jewish attacks on the part of the Greek nationalists. Torah scrolls were burned and synagogues desecrated as the anti-Semites spread terror through the Jewish district of the city.

More than 100 Jewish families were homeless tonight as a result of the fire. During the fire several persons were seriously injured. In other parts of the city Jews were also attacked and a number injured. While it is reported that the government is considering the proclamation of martial law to restore order, the situation continues to be extremely serious.
