The Anglo-Israel Chamber of Commerce is preparing a confidential list of British firms believed to be bowing to Arab pressure not to enter into business arrangements with Jewish interests, it was learned today. The list is expected to be used to support representations to the British government for more effective counter-measures against what is shaping up as an Arab financial blockade directed against some of the leading Jewish-owned banks in Britain and on the Continent.
This development followed confirmation over the weekend that the Warburg and Rothschild banks in the City of London (the financial district) have been black-listed by the Arabs from participation in international loans involving Arab oil funds. It was understood that considerable evidence has come to light recently indicating that the number of British firms fearing Arab financial retaliation has increased. On the other hand, London mercantile banks are continuing their efforts to resist Arab financial pressure against banks with Jewish connections, the Financial Times reported today.
Meanwhile, two major Jewish owned banks in Paris–the Rothschild Bank and Lazard Freres, have so far refrained from comment on the reported Arab blacklist.
