Electrification came last night to the first Arab village in Israel, Taibea. The lights were put on at a ceremony presided over by Minister of the Interior Israel Bar Yehuda.
First the village mosque was lit up in many colors. Then 40 street lights went on amid the cheers of the local people: Other Arab villages are planning electrification.
The cost of the project was 60,000 pounds, 25,000 of which was raised by the village itself. Another 25,000 was borrowed from the Workers Bank and 10,000 was borrowed from the government. The village has been hooked into the national electric power system.
