The first organized group of Black South Africans landed at Ben Gurion Airport over the weekend to begin a tour of Israel. The group of 77 persons includes 20 priests and one bishop. Previously, Black South Africans visited Israel as individuals, usually as students or artists.
The group tour is a result of the recent liberalization of South Africa’s racial policies which has permitted Blacks to travel in groups to various foreign countries. The visit to Israel was organized with the assistance of El Al’s marketing department in Johannesburg. The Israeli airline maintains regular service to South Africa.
