The first 19 of a group of American teenagers left tonight for Israel to study in the Mollie Goodman Academic High School there, the first American high school of its kind in Israel, established by the Zionist Organization of America. The Mollie Goodman Academic High School, which is named in memory of the wife of noted Zionist leader, Abraham Goodman, of New York, shares one campus with the Kfar Silver Agricultural High School, also maintained by the ZOA, near Ashkelon.
The high school will be opened September 1. The dedication ceremonies of the new school, which was designed primarily for American students, were held during the 70th Jubilee Convention of the Zionist Organization of America in Israel last July, in the presence of 1,000 delegates. The students — both boys and girls — starting with the 9th and 10th grades, will receive the benefits of a high standard of secondary education, together with a knowledge of Judaism and exposure to the pioneering spirit of Israel, following a curriculum patterned after United States high schools. They will be housed in modern, spacious dormitories and provided with study rooms, a library, synagogue, club rooms and all other related services.
