The first group of Jewish immigrants to arrive from Poland in two years disembarked at Haifa yesterday. The 24 members of the party said that the personal intervention of the Polish President had made possible their departure, and they asked Jewish Agency officials to express their thanks to the President for his help.
Some of the immigrants told reporters that there are still some 40,000 Jews in Poland and that most of them desire to come to Israel. Anti-Semitism in Poland has increased greatly, according to the immigrants, and Jews are afraid to speak Yiddish on the streets of Polish cities. Another group of immigrants is expected here September 5.
