The first Hebrew book to be printed in Latin characters was published here. The book was issued by Ben Avi, editor of the Hebrew daily. “Doar Ha’yom” and is a biography of his father, Eliezer Ben Yehuda, the author of the Hebrew dictionary. Ben Yehuda gave impetus to the renaissance of the Hebrew language in Palestine by his initiation of Hebrew as a spoken tongue in daily intercourse.
