The first Hebrew college in Morocco was opened in a specially-constructed building near Casablanca under the auspices of the Alliance Israelite Universello, it was reported here today. The school, which will provide its students with free board, was dedicated in the presence of French, Moslon and Jewish leaders.
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his consecration, Cardinal Jules Saliege of Toulouse, France, received a delegation headed by Dr. Isaie Schwartz, Chief Rabbi of France, which expressed, on behalf of French Jewry and the Alliance Israelite Universello, profound gratitude for the courageous attitude of the Cardinal during the German occupation. The delegation recalled the fact that many Jews, hidden by the Cardinal and his subordinates from the Nazi police, owe him their lives.
