The State of Israel school, the first Hebrew school in Asuncion, was officially inaugurated this week at ceremonies attended by President Alfredo Stroessner, his entire Cabinet, ranking Army officers and the Mayor of Asuncion. The school and adjacent kindergarten will admit children between the ages of 3-14 for studies entirely in the Hebrew language. Most of the children of the local Jewish community are expected to attend. The curriculum includes Hebrew literature and the history and geography of Israel. The school is located in a building provided by the Jewish community. The guests at the inaugural ceremonies were received by the Israeli Ambassador Shlomo Katz, and Dr. Yitzhak Segelah, president of the Jewish Federation of Paraguay. There are 1200 Jews in Paraguay.
