Dr. L.J. Ravitz, professor of sociology at Wayne State University, yesterday became the first Jew to be elected to the Detroit Common Council since 1920.
The first, and only other, Jew to be elected to the city’s legislative body was the late David W. Simons, an Orthodox leader elected to the first nine-man council in 1918.
