The first Jewish candidate to enter the mayoralty race in this city’s history, has received the enthusiastic support of both of Ottawa’s newspapers against all three of his opponents. Samuel Berger. Q. C., a member of the city’s Board of Control, is making his first bid to head the City Council.

The Ottawa Citizen, the city’s most influential daily, has announced its support of Mr. Berger in spite of the fact that his leading opponent is Dr. Charlotte Whitton, a columnist on the paper. The surprise move by the paper had drawn a storm of protest from supporters of Dr. Whitton, who has now resigned from the staff of the Citizen. The Ottawa Journal, also announcing its support of Mr. Berger, declared today that “Mr. Berger has shown more leadership in any crisis than any other member of the Council.”
