The first Jewish community in Albania was officially recognized by the Government today. It comprises ten Jewish families in Valona — the largest number of any place in the country.
The entire Jewish population of Albania is 35 families.
After the community had been officially registered, construction was begun in Valona of the first synagogue to be built in the country following the collection of 350 gold napoleons.
