A memorial to the victims of the Nazi Holocaust is to be opened this summer in Hyde Park, London, with the consent of the British government. The first memorial of its kind in Britain, it will consist of a specially landscaped garden and a stone bearing a Biblical quotation in Hebrew and English.

Government approval of the scheme was announced in Parliament yesterday by Neil Macfarlane, Undersecretary at the Department of Environment.

Greville Janner, MP and president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, who has been discussing the project with the government for the past four years, said the government’s announcement represented a “profound gesture of good will towards the Board and the Jewish community.

“We trust that this garden will be regarded by the people of Britain not merely as a signal memory of the evils of the Hitlerian Holocaust but as a reminder that when flames of hatred are lit against the Jewish people they rampage unconfined.”

REMINDER: There will be no Bulletins dated March 30 and 31 because of Passover.
