The first contingent of Jews to emigrate from Poland to Palestine will leave there shortly, according to a well informed source who arrived bere from Warsaw this week. The transport will consist of persons who do not have any surviving relatives in Poland and whose families had previouly settled in Palestine, he said today.
At the same time, the JTA informant revealed that Jewish organizations are agitating for the establishment of Jewish colonies in the newly acquired western sections of Poland, which have been taken from Germany. Several Jewish groups have already had land assigned to them, but colonization cannot begin until the acute shortage of agricultural implements and machinary is overcome.
Tools for Jewish artisans are also needed, as well as supplies of food, clothes and medicine, he disclosed. Special assistance is required by the, at least, twenty percent of the Jewish population which is still not able to work.
The new Polish Army, he said, has 16,000 Jewish troops, several of whom hold important positions. Many Jewish orphans were saved by these troops who clothed and fed them. In all of Poland, the JTA source Declared, there are about 5,000 Jewish orphans.
