In my estimation the most important news of this week was the suspension of boycotts on Zionist funds when the agreement was signed between the Zionist Executive and the Union of the Revisionists.

One of the most deplorable situations resulting from the strife between Zionist factions has been the effect on fund collections for Palestine which is such an important factor in the upbuilding of the National Homeland.

Why, when there are so many problems that we can hope to solve only through unity, must there be difficulties within the Zionist ranks ? Why, particularly, when all have a common aim and ideal ?

It cannot be expected that all the factions can be of one opinion as to the methods and policies to be pursued to attain our goal. But there is room in Palestine for all points of view, provided each is willing to cooperate with the other.

The parties concerned in reaching an agreement must accomplish more than the understanding to cease violence and indecent methods of party strife. It is necessary to reach an agreement which will accord with the principles of all parties and which will respect each other’s opinions.

Judaism, a good government, and a healthy social order are compatible and can be realized by such cooperation.

The news of the agreement and the suggestion for a parley to settle important Zionist issues is a step in the right direction. It is the most important news of the week.

COLLEGIATE DIVISION

No one reading this week’s issue of the Jewish Daily Bulletin can fail to realize the significance of the successful uprising of the radical group among the forces of the Friends of New Germany.

The usurpers, led by Anton Haegele, are opposed to the program heretofore carried on under the guidance of Dr. Schnuch, acknowledged leader of the Friends. Haegele’s objections are that the Friends have not been active enough under the old regime. He intends to pursue a policy of rabid anti-Semitism, including a boycott of Jewish goods. He and his cohorts seized entire control of the society’s news organ, the Deutsche Beobachter, thus hoping to spread their doctrines to the whole of American Nazidom. The barbarous course of action of the Haegele group will probably discredit the movement in the eyes of its more genteel sympathizers. This result would be distinctly beneficial to the country’s Jewish population, who have suffered more from Schnuch’s subtle tactics than they ever will from Haegele’s blatant attacks. On the other hand a possible result of Haegele’s coup is the complete success of his program. Unlikely though this success seems, it would be a grave blow to American Jewry.

Consider how such an attitude toward Jews in so liberal a country as this would affect their position in the less enlightened countries of the world.

With such ominous possibilities in mind there can be no doubt as to the importance of this turn of events.

SCHOLASTIC DIVISION

The Nazi split in New York City seems the most important news of the week to me. Anton Haegele’s revolt against Herr Schnuch points to the essential dissension now prevalent among the Nazis of America.

This situation is most important to Jewry because it revives the old adage that a house divided against itself cannot stand. The Nazis are split here in America. The Nazis, once split in Germany, were purged, only to split again. It is apparent that an organization founded on oppression of the minority, founded on race hatred, persecution and discrimination, cannot live long. This was the fate of the Ku Kluxers a few short years ago. This will be the fate of the American Nazi and the present German Reich.

Jews who suffer now should be thankful that this ray of light appears in the sky. It is the omen that comes in a crisis to renew their hopes, to renew their strength to fight against this evil. United itself is a strong, insidious force. Split, it can be attacked and wiped off the face of the earth.

And it is because I feel that this split in the Nazi ranks is the death rattle of the American Nazi that I consider it the most important news of the week.

Joselovich Berek in 1794 was commissioned by Kosciusko to form a Jewish cavalry regiment which was almost destroyed in the defense of Warsaw against Suvarov.
