The first Long Island classes in secondary Hebrew education have just been opened at the Jamaica Jewish Center, according to an announcement by Rabbi William S. Malov who is in charge of educational affairs at the Center. Under the auspices of the Bureau of Jewish Education a branch of the Hebrew High School of New York City has been started. The last graduating class of the Center’s religious school will be used as a nucleus for the new courses.
The resignation of Harold H. Levin an executive director of the Jamaica Jewish Center and the appointment in his stead of Sigmund I. Kaufman of Pittsburgh, Pa., is announced by Magistrate Benjamin Marvin, president of the institution. Mr. Kaufman has been connected with the Irene Kaufman Settlement House of Pittsburgh and was also formerly associated with the Jewish Big Brothers movement of Manhattan and with the Heckscher Foundation.
