Between 800 and 900 displaced persons, most of them Jews, will sail for the United States on May 1, the AMG announced today, confirming earlier reports that emigration was imminent.
The first group of these DP’s will leave Munich on April 26 while other groups will leave Frankfurt and Stuttgart the following day. The three groups will converge at Bremen where they will sail for an American port under the care of the War Shipping Administration.
After the first transport, present plans call for shipping between 800 and 900 weekly to the United States, with the provision, however, that not more than 3,900 permits will be issued in any one month. The Displaced Persons Division of the AMG will be in charge of transporting the emigrants to Bremen.
