The first Yiddish-language theatre in Italy will open near here shortly, the Joint Distribution Committee announced today. She Central Jewish Refugee Committee had asked the J.D.C. to subsidize the project, pointing out that DP’s in camps in all parts of Italy are extremely anxious to attend Yiddish theatrical performances.
At the present time, amateur dramatic groups are presenting performances in numerous refugee camps. At least 15 professional Yiddish actors and actresses who performed in Poland and Lithuania in prepare years will be brought to a kibbutz near here by the J.D.C. to set up the Yiddish troupe.
