A wave of savage anti-Jewish attacks by Nationalists in the large industrial city of Lodz has brought death to at least five Jews in recent weeks, it was ascertained today.
The fifth victim of Nationalist attacks, Shimon Chelmer, 22-year-old son of an orthodox Jewish leader, was killed yesterday near the Nationalist club in Lodz. Three other Jews, including a woman, were gravely wounded in the same attack. The assailants escaped.
Meanwhile, the situation in universities here, arising from Nationalist efforts to enforce segregation of Jewish students in “ghetto” benches, continued tense following yesterday’s rioting in which twelve Jews were injured.
One of the injured students, Chaim Gottlieb, son of Deputy Joshua Gottlieb, was taken to a hospital this morning in a grave condition. Three others of the wounded are in the hospital, their condition reported serious.
